Parent Accounts

01 How do I log in to College Contact as a parent?

Your student will invite you via email while setting up their account. Download the College Contact app and click I'm a parent to set up your account. Make sure to use the email they inputted for you to set up your account.

If you're having trouble, ask your student which email they used to invite you. You must use that email to set up your account.

02 What can I do in my College Contact parent account?

Parent accounts have identical access to student accounts. If you have a 9th or 10th grader you can message with mentors, attend workshops, and use our online platform and mobile app. If you have an 11th or 12th grader you will also be able to schedule and attend 1:1 meetings with mentors. You do not need to attend all of your students meetings.

03 What do I do if I forgot my password?

If you've forgotten your password you can go to https://prod.yourcollegecontact.com/login. Click the Forgot Password link below the Sign In button. Input your email to receive a link to reset your password.

04 How do I get the College Contact app?

Our app is available in both the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. To download it, just search for College Contact in either store. Once downloaded you'll be able to log in with your email and password.

05 Can parents schedule meetings?

Parents can schedule meetings for their students. They are welcome to join their students in meetings to ask questions, but we recommend parents also give their students opportunities to meet with mentors independently.

To schedule a meeting in the app, click the New Meeting button on your dashboard. Explore the available mentors for different days & times. To view a mentor's profile just click the meeting slot. Once you find your desired mentor/date/time, click Book Meeting. You'll input what you'd like to cover in the meeting and confirm. You and your student will receive notifications via the app 24 hours and 1 hour before the meeting.

06 Can parents join workshops?

Yes! If you download our app you can view and join upcoming workshops. Eable notifications to get notified when workshops are starting.

You can also subscribe to our parent newsletter to get each weeks workshop schedule.

Student Accounts

01 How do I log in to my College Contact account?

You can log in to your account online at https://prod.yourcollegecontact.com/login or by downloading the College Contact app. Just enter your SCHOOL email and password to log in.

Go to the Mentors page from your account online, or click on the mentors tab from the mobile app.

You can filter mentors by college, major, & demographics to find someone who is the perfect fit for you!

04 How do I message mentors?

Click the chat icon on a mentor's profile on the website or the app to start a conversation.

If you already have a conversation started with a mentor, just go to the Messages page to read new messages and respond.

Workshops

01 What are workshops for?

Workshops are virtual, group sessions with College Contact mentors, colleges, employers, trade programs, and military organizations. They serve as opportunities to explore pathways, build connections, and get help with key postsecondary planning components. Below are some examples of workshop topics:

- UT Austin Admissions Night
- FAFSA Workshop
- Careers in Construction
- Air Force Night
- Brainstorming & Writing College Essays

Workshops are typically 1 hour long and take place after school hours between 5-9pm.

02 How do I join workshops?

You can join workshops from the College Contact website or app.

On the website, go to the Meetings page and click Join next to the workshop you'd like to join.

On the app, find the workshop you want to join on your dashboard and click the Join button next to it.

Please note you cannot join a workshop until 5 minutes before the start time.

03 How do I find workshops I want to go to?

We recommend enabling push notifications on the app so you get notified about upcoming workshops. You can also check the Up Next section of your dashboard to see what workshops are coming up.

1:1 Coaching

01 How do I schedule a meeting?

To schedule a meeting from the College Contact app you can either:

1. Find a mentor you'd like to work with from the mentors tab and choose a meeting date & time from the slots on their profile.

2. Click New Meeting on the home page and use the booking calendar to find a day, time, and mentor that works for you. You can filter the mentors displayed by their colleges, majors, or your Favorited mentors by using the filters at the top.

To Book a Meeting from the website:

1. Go to the Mentors page, find a mentor you want to work with, click Book a Meeting on their profile, and select a date and time from their calendar that works for you.

2. Go to the Meetings page, search for the mentor you want to work with, click Book a Meeting, and select a date and time from their calendar that works for you.

02 How do I reschedule or cancel a meeting?

On the app, click the edit button next to the the meeting on your dashboard and make your desired changes.

On the website, go to the Meetings page, click the meeting you want to edit or cancel, click the Reschedule or Cancel button and make your desired changes.

03 What can I work on and get help with in 1:1 meetings?

Our mentors are prepared to help you with pretty much anything college & career related. Some examples include:
- Exploring postsecondary options
- Exploring career pathways
- Writing a resume
- Writing college essays
- Completing college apps
- Applying for Scholarships
- Completing FAFSA/CSS Profile
- Evaluating trade programs
- Finding internships & job opportunities

04 How do I decide which mentor to meet with?

We recommend meeting with a mentor who shares your goals, interests, or background. You can search for mentors in the College Contact app by clicking on the mentors tab at the bottom of the screen. Use the filters to filter by college, major, and background. Click on mentors to view their bios and see who seems like a good match for you. Once you find someone you like, you can find a time to meet with them.

If you have a very busy schedule you can also browse the booking calendar by clicking New Meeting on your home page in the College Contact app. You'll see what mentors are available at each day/time. Find a day/time you're available and choose a mentor from the available slots.

04 How do I join my meeting?

We recommend joining your 1:1 meetings from a laptop since you'll likely be sharing screen and working on documents live with your coach.

1. Login at https://prod.yourcollegecontact.com/login
2. Click Meetings in the blue menu on the left or click on your meeting in the Up Next section to go to the Meetings page
3. Click the Join Now button next to your meeting

Please note you will not be able to join meetings until 5 minutes before the start time.

If a laptop is not available, you can join meetings using the steps above on your mobile device. You can also join from the College Contact mobile app by opening the app and clicking the Join button next to your meeting.

About Us

01 Why do you use the near-peer model?

We are firm believers in the near-peer model for advising support. We know that students who have access to a mentor who is relatable, close in age, and recently went through a similar process increases a student’s competency in the future planning. This model is widely researched and proven to boost student efficacy, motivation, & outcomes.

02 Can you help students with pathways other than college?

We support students in pursuing a variety of postsecondary pathways, primarily 4 year university, community college, skilled trades, & the military, although we are also able to support students in finding direct routes to employment out of high school. Our first priority is educating each student about postsecondary options, so they can make an informed decision that fits their goals, interests, and financial situation.

03 How do you find & train your mentors?

Our mentors go through an extensive recruiting, vetting, and onboarding procedure to ensure high-quality support for our students and families. Mentors are sourced through partnerships with higher ed institutions, trade programs, and military partners as well as targeted outreach. Mentors submit an initial application, complete a case study, and attend a live interview to prove intellectual, social, and emotional fit for the mentorship role. Upon acceptance they are required to complete a background check and extensive onboarding course to become educated on College Contact's future readiness curriculum. All mentors must pass this course and a final exam prior to working with students. Ongoing training and support ensures mentors stay up to date on our latest curriculum and changes in the postsecondary landscape.

05 How do you ensure quality support?

Beyond extensive vetting and training for mentors, our platform uses several automatic feedback loops to ensure positive experiences for all of our users. First, every session is recorded and transcribed for quality assurance. We also record all conversations in our messaging feature for training and safety purposes. Additionally, each student and mentor is required to rate every 1:1 meeting. Any rating under 4 stars is flagged to our team for investigation and remediation. Ongoing training and support for mentors also ensures they remain up to date on the latest developments in College Contact's curriculum and the broader postsecondary landscape.

06 How do you keep students safe on your platform?

Our platform is designed to prioritize student privacy and safety. Meeting recordings and transcriptions are collected for every 1:1 session. We also record all messages sent in the platform and block thousands of words and phrases from being sent. No users are permitted to share phone numbers, emails, photos, or videos via our messaging feature. In addition to being background checked, we also require all mentors to sign an in-depth contract that mandates data minimization and reporting of any concerns regarding student safety and well-being. Both students and mentors have the ability to report each other at any time via our flagging feature if they have a serious concern.
