FAQs
01 Why do you use college students as mentors?
We are firm believers in the near-peer model for counseling support. We know that students who have access to a mentor who is relatable, close in age, and recently went through a similar process not only increases a student’s competency in the admissions process but boosts student advocacy & motivation. Students who work with us often feel more comfortable asking vulnerable questions to their mentor about their admissions process which really shines true in the essay brainstorming, editing, and revising process. We have seen how the power of near-peer has increased admissions success rates, made students feel more confident about pursuing higher education, and helped them make friends along the way. One parent said “This is the best thing we offered our son in his process” because her son was excited to attend meetings with his mentor, and he was able to get real, honest advice from a student who attended his top school (which he was accepted to!). For more information on why we love the near-peer model & how we vet undergraduate students, check out our Mentors page.
02 Where do your students get accepted?
We have an 86% placement rate into a student’s favorite university. 100% of the students we work with are accepted to college - something we are really proud of! Our students have gotten into over 150+ universities & colleges, both within the US and abroad. We send students to Ivy Leagues, large state institutions, small public colleges, community colleges, and liberal arts schools. You can see a short list of where our students have been accepted on the map shown above. We never push students to attend more selective colleges to boost our own statistics. We are huge believers that every student has a place for them, and we pride ourselves on helping students find their best college fit.
03 Do you help with financial aid & scholarships?
Yes! All of our mentors have knowledge of the FAFSA and CSS profile processes and can advise students and parents. Our mentors also offer scholarship advising services to help students identify, apply, and write essays for scholarships.
04 Can my student have more than one mentor?
Yes! Students can add as many mentors as they would like to their “mentor team”. You have the ability to book meetings with any mentor on the platform, and can virtually message with the mentors too. We have a filter feature in the platform that allows students and parents to search for mentors by their name, university or major. You can read their bios and connect with them after you sign up!
05 Can a mentor just edit my college essay?
Yes! You can absolutely send us essays, resumes, cover letters, letters of continued interest, and update emails for review. Our platform has a ton of features beyond 1:1 mentorship, so we encourage every student to sign-up for our free plan and explore all the features available. To get your essay sign up for the platform and go to the “Documents” page. From there you can submit any document you want us to review. Just add your Google document link & submit payment on the platform. We can edit and return essays in 24 or 72 hours.
06 How do you help students after they enroll in college?
Because all of our college mentors are current undergraduates, our students have the unique ability of building early relationships with undergraduates who are already on campus. Many of our previous students have become friends with their mentor, and some of them end up enrolling at the same university as their mentor. In this way, our mentors will continue the mentor relationship at the university level - helping students navigate college life, academic course load, and social activities. We have a large database of mentors at universities across the nation (and that number is growing everyday), if a student enrolls at an institution that is different from their primary mentor’s university, we can re-match students to a mentor at the university they are attending to help them navigate their first year of college.
07 Do you help with test prep or tutoring?
At this time, we do not help with SAT/ACT test preparation or general academic tutoring. However, we do help students plan which test would be most appropriate for their academic profile. We also help students and families strategize when they should be preparing to take the exams & how we will include the results of those exams in the application itself. Not every student needs to take the SAT/ACT, so we will advise the student on a case-by-case basis.
