Within the program students will complete these steps

Session 1: Establishing Foundations

  • Overview of the program and expectations.

  • Completion of student interests and pre-program survey.

  • Review of classes taken, GPA, and current extracurricular activities.

  • Completion of a career exploration survey and analysis of results 

  • Audit of the student's activity/extracurricular list (aiming for 10 activities).

Session 2: Strategic Planning for Junior Year

  • Evaluation of progress toward the goal of 10 activities by October of 2024.

  • SAT/ACT test prep planning tailored to individual student needs, as well as free resources to complete study plans provided.

  • Creation of a class schedule plan for senior year.

  • Audit of current grades and courses against the school's profile and offerings.

  • Identification of gaps and areas needing improvement.

Session 3: Crafting a College List

  • College list planning based on student interests.

  • Introduction to the Safety-Target-Reach method for college selection.

  • Evaluation of character strengths for admissions essay brainstorming.

  • Continuation of test prep plan, addressing any challenges.

  • Discussion on refining the college list.

  • Begin brainstorming topics for admissions essays. 

Session 4: Brainstorming & Outlining College Admissions Essays

  • Continue brainstorming college essay topics and/or creating outlines for the admissions essay(s).

  • Further refinement of the college list.

  • Resume building and drafting for college applications.

  • Check in regarding the test study plan. 

  • Outreach to university representatives for Q/A and demonstrated interest.

Session 5: Editing Essays & Summer Planning

  • Completion of the college list.

  • Drafting and editing of the personal statement admissions essay and/or other relevant essays.

  • Identification of recommenders for admissions applications.

  • Development of a success plan for the summer and senior year fall semester, outlining planned activities and internship/job applications.

  • Continue outreach to university representatives for Q/A and demonstrated interest.

  • Complete mid-program survey. 

Session 6: Supplemental Essay Planning 

  • Complete draft 1 of the personal statement essay.

  • Organize and plan supplemental essay timeline and topics.

  • Brainstorm topics for supplemental essays. 

  • Finish resume and prepare for job/internship applications and interviews if relevant.

  • Check-in regarding test plan, activity section build-out and junior year grades.

  • If necessary, revise senior year course selection strategy.

Session 7: Essay Editing Workshop

  • Strategy for applying RD, EA, and ED completed. 

  • Virtual college tour suggestions made.

  • Revisions of draft 2 of personal statement essay.

  • Revisions of drafts 1 of supplemental essays.

  • Check-in on college list preferences and majors. 

Session 8: Essay Editing Workshop Continued

  • Revisions of draft 3 of personal statement essay.

  • Revisions of drafts 2 of supplemental essays.

  • Personalized scholarship list building.

  • Review of key dates and required materials for applications. 

  • Open accounts on the Common App, ApplyTexas, and UC App for a full review of the sections.

  • Start organizing the activity section.

Session 9: Putting It All Together

  • Final touches on the personal statement essay & supplemental essays.

  • Fill out the Common App, ApplyTexas, and UC App for a full review of the sections.

  • Organize and write the activity section and extra-information section.

  • Review of key dates and required materials for applications. 

Session 10: Application Submissions & Planning for Independence

  • Applications submitted and/or fully prepared for EA,ED, and RD application cycles. 

  • FAFSA orientation & scholarship list completed.

  • Compilation of a comprehensive next step plan.

  • Development of a success plan for the remainder of senior year and senior year summer. 

  • Discussion and tips for navigating the transition from high school to post-high school life. 

  • Q&A and preparation for the transition to independent planning.

  • Post-program survey completed.
